Amour mi tien (Love keep me)

Two shoulders are formed by a raised collar on either side of a facetted bezel, which culminates in a bluish-grey pointed stone in a square setting. The bezel appears to be a later insertion of uncertain date (see analysis). This may represent an adjustment to the ring in the Middle Ages or may be of later date but in the Medieval style. The stone with which the bezel is set is a natural crystal given a grey colour from a substance in the mount. A combination of soot, gum-mastic, linseed and almond oil and turpentine was used in the Middle Ages to achieve this effect.

The finger-ring is gold and dates from the fifteenth century. As such, it qualifies as Treasure under the terms of the Treasure Act 1996.
