Betawiki: better support for your language in MediaWiki

Dear community. I am writing to you to promote a special wiki called Betawiki. This wiki facilitates the localisation (l10n) and internationalisation (i18n) of the MediaWiki interface. You may have changed many messages here on Wikipedia to use your language for your language profile, but if you would log in to for example the English language Wiktionary, you would not be able to use the interface as well translated as here.

If you wish to contribute to better support of your language in MediaWiki, as well as for many MediaWiki extensions, please visit Betawiki, create an account and request translator priviledges. You can see the current status of localisation of your language on meta and do not forget to get in touch with others that may already be working on your language on Betawiki.

If you have any further questions, please let me know on my talk page on the Dutch Wikipedia. We will try and assist you as much as possible, for example by importing all messages from a local wiki for you to start with.

You can also find us on the Freenode IRC network in the channel #mediawiki-i18n where we would be happy to help you get started.

Please translate the text of w:yi:MediaWiki:Gadget-UseLangRu into Russian

Dear friends; w:yi:special:Gadgets allows users to add a help tab to their user interface if they want to see some of the pages in their language. w:yi:MediaWiki:Gadget-UseLangRu contains the text:‎

This option adds a « ru » tab in order to display the user interface in Russian.‎

Барракуда (торпеда)

Hello, we received an e-mail via OTRS (ticket #2008021310009761) concerning the article Барракуда (торпеда). The producer doesn't use the name Barracuda anymore; on the producer's website it's now just labeled as superkavitierender Unterwasserlaufkörper (supercavitating torpedo). I think you should include гущин Gushchin, Anatoliy Michailovich, Kapitan 3-go ranga, who commanded the Soviet submarine 137 that made the illicit spy trip to Karlskrona, Sweden, but stranded on a rock in October 1981. This caused a scandal, and opened Sweden's eyes to the Soviet threat.

I do not know whether this is possible or not, but I would need some kind of mentor-like supervision to control my edits (I would also very much appreciate to have my user page and the talk page corrected, both for language points and content (if there's anything outside the guidelines). Many thanks forward.), as my Russian language knowledge allows me to understand most of what I read but not to write correctly…
Because of this, I won't make many edits (that's why I did not put any {{helpme}} banner on my user page), but I'll correct some points, mainly on aviation articles, like I did it for the Ан-72/Ан-74 for the first time, or Анатра today.
If need be (e.g. for more details), please e-mail me.

Always up-to-date details for every municipality in Finland

Hi project, I just wanted to let you know we have launched a project called FMPortal in the Finnish Wikipedia.

The purpose of the project is to provide up-to-date statistical data about Finnish municipalities. We have set up a centralized portal for this project in the toolserver. If you would like to utilize one or more of these templates, please fill out the localization details and adopt the Wikipedia page. After localization any bots, which can read details over the HTTP protocol are able to update the template details as follows:

1. Population count: updated once per month from Population Register Center of Finland
2. Acreage details: updated once per year from Land Survey of Finland
3. Tax rate details: updated once per year from Tax Administration of Finland
4. Demographic information: updated once per year from Population Register Center of Finland

A total of 12 different templates provide almost all of the important information about Finnish municipalities and are easy to adopt. The core templates can provide the date when a source was updated and a reference link for this. You can localize the reference links to use your wiki's format and every date is provided in the ISO 8601 format, supporting fully {{#time}}. The actual values output have no thousand separators and use the dot as decimal separator, so the values can be localized with {{#formatnum}}.
